Why another list?
Search "best SEO companies in San Diego" and many of the lists you get are written by an agency on the list, often with itself near the top. This one is too. The difference we can offer is that it says so, puts every company's own published numbers side by side, links the source for each, and does not put us first.
What you will not find here: claims about anyone's results or quality. We cannot check those, so we do not make them, including about ourselves. For what local SEO should cost a trade business, read what San Diego plumbers actually pay for SEO.

How do you choose an SEO company as a contractor?
Start with what you need, not who ranks for "best SEO company". Most San Diego contractors get their calls from two places: the Google map results and the organic results under them. If your Google Business Profile is half-finished, fix that first; it costs less than a month of anyone's retainer. Google's own local ranking help page says results come from relevance, distance and prominence, and that nobody can pay for a better local ranking. More on that in how to rank in the San Diego map pack.
Then sort the field by two things you can check before a sales call:
- Budget. If a company does not publish a price, assume you will hear it on a call. That is normal, not a red flag. It just means you cannot compare until you talk.
- Terms. Month-to-month means the agency has to earn every month. A first term of six or twelve months is common too. Know which one you are signing.
Not sure where your site stands? Our free website audit reads your actual site and grades it with our custom-built grading system. Take the report to any company on this list.
Questions to ask any agency, including us
- Who owns the website, the domain, the Google Business Profile and the ad accounts? The answer you want: you do, in your name, with the agency added as a manager. Ask what happens to each one if you leave.
- How long is the contract, and how do I cancel? Get the minimum term, the notice period and any cancellation fee in writing.
- What exactly is in the monthly fee? How many pages a month, how many posts, which directories, whether review replies are included, whether ad spend is separate.
- What will the report show, and how often? Calls and form leads, not just traffic and rankings. Ask to see a sample report.
- Who does the work? The person on the sales call, a team in-house, or a subcontractor? Who do you call when something breaks?
- Will you guarantee rankings? The honest answer is no. Google decides who ranks.
Sources and method
How companies were chosen. We started from companies that show up when San Diego contractors search for SEO help, then kept only those that are active today, do SEO, and either are based in San Diego or name San Diego as an office or service area. Every company had to be verifiable on its own website.
What was checked, and when. Every fact on this page was checked on October 3, 2026, on the company's own website or its Clutch profile. Prices and terms are quoted from the company's own pages. Review counts are Clutch only. Google ratings are not included.
How it is ordered. By lowest published monthly starting price, then alphabetically for companies that do not publish one. Order says nothing about quality.
Who wrote it. Haymaker, which is one of the ten companies listed. Prices change; check each company's site before you decide. If you run one of these companies and something here is out of date, email info@haymakermktg.com and we will correct it.
